DON"T MISS THIS! HERVEY BAY WHALE FESTIVAL Starting 2nd August, all week long! THE WHALES ARE HERE!

This weekend marks the start of the Hervey Bay Whale Festival for 2008. (Queensland.) The festivities last all week long. Hervey Bay is named the "Whale City" because of the annual migration of Humpback Whales which bring their calves to frolic in the warm and protected waters of our bay before making the trek to Antarctica. Hervey Bay is the Gateway to World Heritage Listed Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world, full of lush tropical rainforests, the last pure strain of Dingos, fresh water lakes and coloured sands. Why not stop over for a while and take a Whale Watch Tour? Quite often the whales will swim right up to a boat and some of the fleet also have Underwater Viewing and microphones so you can hear the whales at play.

Saturday the 2nd August will begin with activities at the Marina all day long, free roving bands, street performers, free childrens activities, food. Starting at 2pm at the Food, Wine and Jazz festival. You can also sample wine by the glass from boutique wineries.

# Be there to win whale watch family passes valued at over $150 each!
# Winners announced between 2.30pm and 5.30pm. Hervey Bay Marina, Bucanneer Drive.

You may even get a opportunity to go aboard some of the Whale Watch Fleet.

At 5pm is the Blessing of the Fleet Ceremony, with each boat making a tour around the breakwater, then at 7pm is a magnificent Firework Display. Stay over and take the opportunity to go to Fraser Island or the Whales because this is only the beginning.

Saturday the 9th August there is the Sand, Sea and Sails Festival with an Illuminated Street Parade, on the Esplanade beginning at 5.30pm followed by a Fire Festival on the Sea Front Oval, stalls and displays..

Loads more things happening, check out the Hervey Bay Whale Festival Website for more details.
